ZSK 18 MEGAlab with new features for battery
– In October last year, Coperion GmbH supplied a ZSK 18 MEGAlab twin screw extruder and two high accuracy gravimetric Coperion K-Tron feeders to the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) in Ulm/Germany, a leading international institute for research into energy technologies. The Coperion extruder has been specially equipped with new functions for research in the field of battery production, which enable highly flexible use for development work. The extruder also allows for safe handling of the hazardous materials used in the manufacture of battery masses.
Artificial Intelligence in Syntegon
Syntegon Technology recently installed the first fully validated visual inspection system utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in an automated inspection machine. The installation constitutes a major step in the company’s sustained effort to introduce AI to pharmaceutical visual inspection, thereby exploring largely uncharted territory in the industry. “We are proud to announce this important move, which is the joint result of long-standing visual inspection expertise, solid software and pharmaceutical validation competence, courage to cross boundaries, and an excellent partnership with our customer,” says Dr José Zanardi, responsible for vision inspection development and applications at Syntegon.

Biesterfeld Plastic: organisation of internal structures
A leading international distributor of plastics and additives, Biesterfeld Plastic is adapting its business unit structure. To drive forward its strategic transformation with a focus on consultancy-intensive specialties, the business – a division of the Biesterfeld Group – was subdivided at the beginning of the year. From now on, Biesterfeld Plastic will have five instead of the previous three globally oriented business units: Advanced Polymers, Engineering Polymers, High Performance Polymers, Performance Elastomers and Sustainable Polymer Solutions.
Dow and Plastigaur the successful commercialization
Dow has announced the first large-scale commercial use of its innovative resin AGILITY™ CE, made with 70% recycled plastic. Plastigaur, a leading film converter based in Spain, is using the AGILITY™ CE resin in its collation shrink film, typically used in the transportation of cans or PET bottles. The partnership marks an important step in Dow’s ambition to advance a circular economy for plastics.
Technology Days 2021
For over two decades now, Technology Days has been synonymous with hands-on technology and personal contact – both of which can only be experienced at a live, in-person event. To ensure it can deliver this unique industry event to the invited audience in a way that is Covid-secure, Arburg has decided to extend the Technology Days 2021, which had already been postponed until June: it will now run for six days in Lossburg, Germany, starting on 7 June and ending on 12 June.
Arburg acquire AMK's Drives & Automation division
Strategic investment in the future: Arburg’s entrepreneurial families Hehl and Keinath have acquired AMK Arnold Müller GmbH & Co. KG and with it the Drives & Automation division as of 1st January 2021. The company will operate under the new name of AMKmotion GmbH + Co KG in future. The AMK Group, which is based in Kirchheim/Teck, is one of the international technology leaders in the electric drive technology, control technology, industrial automation engineering, and automotive sectors. AMK has worked closely with Arburg as a development partner in electric drive systems for more than two decades. This combined effort has contributed significantly to the success story of the electric Allrounder injection moulding machines.
