ENGEL Mobility Days 2023
From automotive through aviation to urban mobility, industry experts and visionaries are discussing challenges and trends, new market opportunities and technological possibilities at the ENGEL Mobility Days 2023 – supported by KTM Technologies – in Austria in mid-June. The two-day event with top ranking keynote speakers and future-oriented machine exhibits combines and expands the previous ENGEL conferences trend.scaut and Lightweight Future Day to create a new networking event.
Envalior at the VDI
Envalior’s appearance at the VDI “Plastics in Automotive Engineering 2023” congress in Mannheim will focus on material and technology solutions for battery-electric and fuel-cell-powered vehicles. An additional focus will be on the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and on the latest trends in vehicle technology such as advanced driver assistance systems. “Through our innovations, we want to make vehicles lighter, safer and more powerful. A particular focus here is on increasing the use of sustainable materials based on recycled or bio-based raw materials, which not only reduce the carbon footprint of the application but also promote the establishment of resource-conserving material cycles,” says Julian Haspel, head of the e-Powertrain team at Envalior.
Orders slump by 30 percent in the first quarter
German plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers closed the year 2022 with a price-adjusted increase in turnover of 10 percent. In nominal terms, the increase amounted to 18 percent. "This growth stems from the numerous orders the sector was able to attract in recent years and shows that the supply chains have eased to some degree," explains Ulrich Reifenhäuser, Chairman of the Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association at the VDMA. Currently, the order books are still reasonably full, which hints at a comparatively good sales year in 2023.
Tube of the Year 2023
The election of the winners of etma’s competition "Tube of the Year 2023" and the presentation of the winning tubes took place in Amsterdam at the end of May 2023. The annual conference of the European Tube Manufacturers Association (etma) and the third World Tube Congress, which was organised by etma and attracted a lot of attention, provided a suitable setting for the award ceremony. A jury of seven representatives of etma member companies selected the winners in the categories of aluminium tubes, plastic tubes, laminate tubes, sustainability and prototypes. Beyond the borders of Europe, etma’s competition is regarded as a recognised yardstick for the performance of the industry and as an internationally valid benchmark for creativity, innovation and quality all around flexible tubes.
Reducing ecological footprint with foaming agents
With chemical foaming agents for thermoplastic materials and intensive advice on their selection and use, Tosaf helps users meet the urgent demand from society and legislation for greater sustainability. Foamed plastics reduce the consumption of raw materials, which can also offer cost benefits, and their insulating properties can help reduce the use of energy. Sink marks can be avoided to a large extent, minimizing rejects even if there are high demands on surface quality. At the same time, foaming has no effect on recycling behaviour. Hence, the recyclability of the plastics in the materials cycle is maintained.
Trend-setting with servo systems
In 2023, Servomold GmbH & Co. KG celebrates 25 successful years as a specialist for the automation of injection mould tools. The company's roots go back to May 1998, when Bianca and Thomas Meister founded Exacon Verwaltungs GmbH in their home in the Odenwald region of Germany, offering services related to the design and development of injection moulds. Still under their management today, their company, with 28 employees, is now one of the world's most innovative and efficient developers, manufacturers and suppliers of servo systems for injection moulding. Despite its eventful history, Servomold has remained true to its Odenwald location.
