Paccor enters into global partnership with Digimarc

Paccor has entered into a global partnership with Digimarc to help promote a circular solution for plastic packaging.

The company, which has its headquarters in Bellevue, Washington state and UK offices in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, is a manufacturer of plastic packaging used across a series of industry sectors.

Digimarc uses digital watermarks to improve the sorting of plastics in advance of recycling.

By integrating the Digimarc barcode in a plastic mould, each unit carries what is termed a ‘digital recycling passport’.

That carries such information as the type of object, manufacturer, product SKU, prior use (food, non-food, etc.), and plastic composition.

The barcode also helps with identifying difficult-to-recycle objects, increasing the quantity of recyclate and quality of the waste stream.

“As a Digimarc partner, Paccor looks forward to our continued cooperation to leverage Digimarc’s technology to speed the transition to a circular economy for plastics,” said Nicolas Lorenz, chief commercial officer at Paccor. “We also are pleased to support the industry-led ‘HolyGrail 2.0’ initiative towards digital watermarking as the harmonized approach to delivering superior sorting in recycling facilities.”

Paccor demonstrated its first Digimarc bar-coded thermoformed PET at the recent K trade fair in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The company is described as being the second-largest plastics packaging manufacturer in Europe, with manufacturing locations in 13 countries.
