New PA6 and UHMWPE Compound

Plastics distributor Dreyplas and Spanish company Mekano4 (MK4), a specialist in technical solutions for bridge bearings and post-tensioning, have jointly developed MKSM® a thermoplastic sliding material. It combines excellent wear resistance with heat distortion temperature higher than 80ºC and a very low coefficient of friction. Mitsui Chemicals supplies the base polymers for this innovative alloy of PA6 with UHMWPE plus special additives, which has been patented for this application.

The SKZ Plastics Center does not shy away from this challenge: thanks to extensive knowledge in formulation and process development, even unusual compounds with additives such as microcapsules or enzymes are possible.

Cable Compounds Production

At wire 2024 (April 15-19, 2024, Düsseldorf/Germany) Coperion will present flexible solutions for the efficient production of high-quality compounds for a wide variety of cable applications at booth 13A44 in hall 13. Coperion’s extrusion technology, such as the ZSK twin screw extruder and the KP Kombiplast Compounder, has proven ideal for producing a broad variety of cable compounds for different applications, for example HFFR, XLPE Silan cross-linkable PE or PVC. Plastics Compounding and Recycling

At this year’s Chinaplas (23-26 April 2024, National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC), Hongqiao, Shanghai, PR China) Coperion will present key technologies for processing plastics at Booth F 106 in Hall 2.1. The centerpiece of the exhibits will be the STS 75 Mc PLUS twin screw extruder with its increased specific torque of 13.6 Nm/cm³ which allows the STS extruder to achieve up to 20% more throughput with markedly higher product quality.

StarBlend®: customized compounds

SÜDPACK develops and produces thermoplastic compounds for special appli-cations in its Competence Center for compounding. The high-quality com-pounds made from conventional and bio-based raw materials are perfectly designed to meet the individual needs of customers. The compounds feature high media resistance, surface quality and scratch resistance and can include added recyclate. Since the beginning of this year, the special compounds, which are used in a wide variety of industries, have been marketed under the StarBlend® brand name.

PFAS-free additives for the plastics industry

Tosaf, a globally active manufacturer of additives, compounds, and colour masterbatches for the plastics industry, has developed processing aids for the extrusion of polyolefins that do not contain fluoroelastomers. They can be used without restriction in place of conventional products currently affected by the PFAS debate, are suitable for a wide range of film applications, and they meet the requirements of the FDA and EFSA for use in contact with food. While AP9709PE EU provides enhanced rheological properties, AP9711PE EU is the grade of choice if the focus is on optical properties, including clarity and haze.

New ZSK FilCo Filtration Compounder

For recycling of post-consumer recyclate (PCR) or any highly contaminated polymer, Coperion has developed the innovative ZSK FilCo filtration compounder that allows filtration and compounding in a single production step.

Rozdrobnione produkty uboczne są wykorzystane jako surowiec do produkcji tworzyw modyfikowanych PIR (Post Industrial Recycled). Tym samym Grupa Azoty Compounding zwiększy wolumen produktów z udziałem recyklatów oraz umożliwi rozwijanie współpracy z Klientami w zakresie odbioru PU. Budżet inwestycji to ok. 5 mln zł.

Tailor-made compounds

E-mobility plus the continuing trend towards lightweight construction mean that the demands made on the performance properties of thermoplastics for automotive applications are constantly increasing. A broad portfolio of tailor-made material developments from TechnoCompound has been tuned for use in electrically and conventionally powered vehicles and is noted, for example, for its high heat resistance and/or its suitability for electrical and electronic applications. This includes engineering plastics as well as long glass fiber-reinforced and polyolefin compounds for interior, exterior, underbody and under-the-hood applications. The company is also focused on sustainable solutions with recyclate-based materials that are the result of around thirty years of experience.

Tosaf Fusion on expansion

Tosaf Fusion, developer and manufacturer of customised solutions for compounders and packaging producers, is clearly on course for expansion. The small but dynamic company was founded in 2017 as a subsidiary of Tosaf Compounds Ltd. It now holds a leading position in innovative products such as modifiers for PA, compatibilizers for PP and HFFR cable compounds, as well as tie layers for PE applications in agriculture and packaging. Plastic Compounds Out of Packaging Waste

For its innovative, solvent-based plastic recycling process Newcycling®, APK AG in Merseburg, is relying on the high-performance ZSK extruder technology and technical process expertise from Coperion. Using the Newcycling® process, multi-polymer and multi-layer plastic packaging, that previously could not be recycled, can now be separated and processed into homogeneous regrind using ZSK twin screw extruders. In contrast to chemical recycling, the polymer in this process remains unchanged and does not require energy- and cost-intensive re-polymerization. Newcycling®, therefore, is highly efficient from a cost and from an environmental perspective.

Ascend purchase compounding businesses

Ascend Performance Materials, the largest fully integrated producer of polyamide 66 resin, announced today it signed an agreement to purchase Poliblend and Esseti Plast GD from D’Ottavio Group. The acquisition includes a manufacturing facility in Mozzate, Italy, the masterbatch portfolio of Esseti Plast GD and the engineering plastics portfolio of Poliblend, which consists of virgin and recycled grades of PA66, PA6, PBT and POM.
