Servoelectric cold runner molds for LSR

The patent-pending SMARTshot I cold runner measurement and control concept incorporating servoelectrically actuated nozzle needles, currently under development by LSR mold specialist Elmet, is an intelligent variant of the SMARTshot E system. Once deployed in a practical setting, entirely automatic startup will be possible as will controlled family molds with cavities of differing volumes that do not require additional sensor systems. This will enable cascaded injection processes with time-delayed opening and closing movements as well as injection processes with partially open needles for simultaneously filling cavities with different volumetric flow rates per nozzle. Elmet will give an update of this new concept at LSR 2025 (16 to 19 June 2025 in Irvine, California).

LSR Dosing System TOP 5100:

The TOP 5100 is Elmet's latest precision dosing system for liquid silicone rubber (LSR) injection molding. Suitable for 20- and 200-litre drums, it replaces the previous TOP 5000 version, which has been successful worldwide for almost ten years. It thus seamlessly joins the upper performance range of the manufacturer's dosing systems. The portfolio starts with the 20-litre TOP 700 system and extends to the fully equipped TOP 7000 flagship for 20- and 200-litre drums, with which the new TOP 5100 is closely related in terms of its concept. Elmet has chosen Silicone Expo Europe, taking place in Amsterdam on 19 and 20 March 2025, as the forum for introducing its new dosing system.

TOP 3100 LSR Dosing System

At Fakuma 2024, ELMET will be presenting its expanded portfolio of dosing systems with various equipment levels for LSR injection molding at booth A5-5306. Together with the tried-and-tested TOP 5000 P and 7000 Pro, the new Top 3100 and TOP 700 models cover a wide range of different customer requirements in terms of footprint, drum size and degree of automation. An upgraded pump is now also capable of processing particularly highly thixotropic or stable materials. Visitors to the trade fair will be able to see the TOP 700 dosing system in action at Arburg’s booth (A3-3101). While at Momentive Performance Materials’ booth (A4-4307), a TOP 7000 Pro dosing system will be showing off its capabilities as part of a joint project together with Momentive and Sumitomo. Elmet also constructed the cold runner mold installed there.

Trelleborg tested new LSR dosing system

In the run-up to the official market launch of the new TOP 700 LSR dosing system, Elmet was able to win over its long-standing customer Trelleborg in Switzerland as a development and test partner. Trelleborg received the new system two months before the planned market launch in order to subject it to comprehensive practical testing under real conditions in Stein am Rhein (Switzerland).

TOP 700 LSR Dosing System

At NPE 2024, which runs from May 6 to 10 in Orlando, Florida, ELMET premieres its new, ultra-compact TOP 700 dosing system for injection molding liquid silicone rubber (LSR). Newly developed from the ground up, TOP 700, the most compact 20 liter system on the market, meets industry demand for a combination of cost-effectiveness, process-stable efficiency and the smallest possible footprint. Moreover, the TOP 700 provides the same high precision dosing of silicones and additives as Elmet’s flagship TOP 7000 Pro dosing system with its 200 or 20 liter drum size which was launched back in 2021, so ensuring perfect part quality.

Turnkey Systems for LSR Optics of LED Headlights

Working hand in hand with DOW, ELMET has fine-tuned the manufacturing technology for the main optics of LED headlights with ADB (Adaptive Driving Beam) functionality to suit it for use with a grade of LSR specifically developed for optical applications. Consistently high part quality is ensured by a combination of ELMET’s high-precision SMARTmix TOP 7000P dosing system with the mold’s SMARTshot E cold runner system, in which the needle is positioned servo-electrically when the nozzles open and close.
