SÜDPACK’s greenhouse gas reduction targets

A key milestone in climate protection – in April 2022, SÜDPACK committed to the targets of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). At the end of 2023, the company submitted its concrete targets to the SBTi for reducing green-house gas emissions and for improving its carbon footprint. Two years after signing the Commitment Letter, they were successfully validated in April 2024.

Sustainable SÜDPACK packaging solutions

For SÜDPACK, the CFIA is all about “sustainability.” The French food industry’s leading trade show, which will be held from March 12 to 14 in Rennes this year, is considered one of the key industry gatherings in France with more than 1,700 exhibitors. SÜDPACK will be at booth E1 in hall 10 to provide information about its resource-saving SPQ printing technology while also drawing trade visitors’ attention to the recyclable packaging concepts of its Pure-Line films. As another highlight, SÜDPACK’s new LCA tool will be a point of focus. It makes fact-based decisions possible for an optimal packaging solution in terms of its ecological impact.

StarBlend®: customized compounds

SÜDPACK develops and produces thermoplastic compounds for special appli-cations in its Competence Center for compounding. The high-quality com-pounds made from conventional and bio-based raw materials are perfectly designed to meet the individual needs of customers. The compounds feature high media resistance, surface quality and scratch resistance and can include added recyclate. Since the beginning of this year, the special compounds, which are used in a wide variety of industries, have been marketed under the StarBlend® brand name.

Sustainable packaging

Under the main topic of “responsibility,” Anuga FoodTec will be directing the focus this year towards concepts that aim to use resources responsibly along the entire value chain. The two sustainable packaging concepts that ULMA Packaging and SÜDPACK will be presenting at the international trade event are sure to strike a chord. Both the flow pack and thermoformed packaging are based on monomaterial structures, which makes them fully recyclable. More-over, they stand out due to their high material efficiency.

SÜDPACK innovations honored once again

First the German Packaging Award 2023, now the WorldStar Packaging Award: the two SÜDPACK packaging concepts Tubular Bag PurePE and PharmaGuard® are among the winners of the global competition, which honors the best of the best in packaging innovation every year. Both solutions are based on mono-material structures and impressed the jury with their recyclability, greater material efficiency and reduced carbon footprints. The awards cere-mony will be held on June 15 in Bangkok during the ProPak Asia show.

SÜDPACK expands its involvement in CARBOLIQ

With effect from January 2, 2024, SÜDPACK has acquired additional shares of CARBOLIQ GmbH and appointed Dirk Hardow as Managing Director. By doing so, SÜDPACK is demonstrating its commitment to a closed-loop system for plastics and to chemical recycling as a complementary recycling technology. Dirk Hardow, who as Manager of the BU FF&C is responsible for matters such as the development and implementation of closed-loop models, will lead the company as its managing director in the future.

Resource efficiency in package printing

It reduces ink and solvent consumption while simultaneously optimizing print quality – with its innovative SPQ technology for flexo printing, SÜDPACK al-ready offers potential carbon savings for package printing. The manufacturer has expanded the range of use for the innovative printing process to also in-clude rotogravure printing and now offers an alternative that is not only highly efficient, but also conserves resources.

Production of recyclable spout pouches

SN Maschinenbau and SÜDPACK have entered into a developmental partnership to create an innovative overall concept for the in-house production of stand-up pouches with spouts designed for packaging pasty and liquid products. The concept is intended for food producers and fillers who have up to now been using pre-made spout pouches and will be presented for the first time at the international trade fair Prod&Pack in Lyon from November 21 to 23, 2023 (hall 6, booth J75).

Sustainable packaging concepts for the food industry

SÜDPACK will be taking part in PACK EXPO, the international packaging trade show, once again this year. From September 11 to 13, the film manufacturer will be presenting its entire portfolio – this time in Las Vegas – of both conven-tional and sustainable high-performance films and packaging concepts for the food industry on the 640 square feet of booth SL-5972. In addition, at the ex-hibition booth of PPi Technologies, the US representative of SN Maschinenbau, film made by SÜDPACK will be processed into stand-up pouches with zipper reclosure on an SN horizontal pouch packaging machine.

SÜDPACK Medica and Liveo Research join forces

“PharmaGuard” is the name of the innovative blister concept for solid ap-plications, which SÜDPACK Medica will showcase at Stand E1 at the Con-nect in Pharma trade fair and convention in Geneva in mid-June. This recy-clable packaging concept for the pharmaceutical industry is characterized by outstanding material properties and serves as a building block for im-proving their eco-balance.

Folie wielowarstwowe znajdują zastosowanie w szerokiej gamie materiałów opakowaniowych, szczególnie w przemyśle spożywczym. Europejski Zielony Ład przewiduje, że do 2030 r. opakowania muszą w dużym stopniu nadawać się do recyklingu. W przyszłości szczegóły reguluje rozporządzenie w sprawie opakowań i odpadów opakowaniowych (PPWR). Projekt rozporządzenia został przedstawiony w listopadzie 2022 r. Jednak do tej pory recykling folii wielowarstwowej okazywał się trudny, ponieważ folia jest wykonana z różnych materiałów.

Recyclable blister concept

Companies in the pharmaceutical, medical goods and life science industries are currently evaluating the packaging concepts that are used for their products. The reason – they are taking a more sustainable position and many have committed to science-based goals. And replacing packaging concepts that are not particularly environmentally friendly with a recycla-ble alternative serves as a building block for improving their eco-balance.

SÜDPACK and ULMA Packaging at interpack

SÜDPACK and ULMA Packaging will present two sustainable packaging con-cepts at this year’s interpack trade fair – in Hall 5, Stand C23. The flow pack and the thermoformed packaging are based entirely on mono-materials – and are therefore fully recyclable. Visitors will be able to watch the production of flow packs live on the FM 500 horizontal flow pack machine as well as the pro-duction of thermoformed packaging on the TFS 600.

SÜDPACK and SN Maschinenbau at interpack

The film manufacturer SÜDPACK and the packaging machine manufacturer SN Maschinenbau will be coming together at this year’s interpack to present an innovative and sustainable concept for the production of practical stand-up pouches at booth A61 in Hall 6. The versatile, PE-based and therefore recycla-ble packaging material from SÜDPACK will be used on the SN Maschinenbau pouch packaging machine, the FMH 300, for the production of stand-up pouches with zippers. In combination with the pouch packaging machine fea-turing a special hygienic design, the PE mono-material is particularly suitable for primary packaging, for example for grated cheese, sausages or snacks.

SÜDPACK and CARBOLIQ on chemical recycling

With its cooperation partners, SÜDPACK has prepared the way for a function-ing circular economy. On 15 February, a select group of journalists was given the opportunity to tour the CARBOLIQ plant in Ennigerloh near Münster, which is unique in the industry as the only plant in fully continuous operation. Experts from both companies as well as entrepreneur Johannes Remmele were available to answer questions during the press conference – and there was a particular focus on the facts surrounding chemical recycling.

Pioneering printing technology

“100 Companies for Resource Efficiency” is an initiative that was launched by Baden-Württemberg’s state government and its leading trade associations. It is raising public awareness about companies with exemplary efficiency measures. And one of them is SÜDPACK. On 24 November, the film manufacturer was honored as one of the 100 companies for its pioneering SPQ technology.

ZERO WASTE

At the Plastic Waste Free World Conference & Expo in Cologne, the film manu-facturer SÜDPACK is presenting business models at Stand 2012 for the closure of recycling loops and for keeping plastics in the loop at the end of their lifecy-cle. The film manufacturer, which was voted one of the top 50 most sustainable SMEs in Germany by WirtschaftsWoche, and was also nominated for the Ba-den-Württemberg Environmental Award, is pursuing a central objective with its roadmap for sustainable film solutions and, above all, with its high-profile initia-tives for mechanical and chemical recycling: ZERO WASTE.

Recyclate production at K 2022

At K 2022, the leading business platform for the plastics and rubber industries, SÜDPACK and Coperion will be sending a strong message this year when it comes to a circular economy. From 19 to 26 October at the Coperion stand CE 09 in the Circular Economy Forum, the two companies will be presenting an exemplary technical application for special compounds based on PIR recyclates, which SÜDPACK produces using the ZSK twin screw extruder from Coperion.

The innovative Doypack PurePP

For a number of years, resealable doypacks have been a preferred packaging concept for nuts, sweet and savory snacks, as well as spices, coffee and tea – but the current barrier composites on the market are not very sustainable, due to their aluminum content. As a modern packaging alternative, SÜDPACK has now developed its first practical, PP-based doypack, which is material-efficient, entirely aluminum-free and above all recyclable. This innovative concept will be on display at this year’s FachPack on the SÜDPACK Stand 224 in Hall 7.

Essential element of technical applications

From October 3 to 5, 2022, SÜDPACK will be attending the 38th International NO-DIG Conference and Exhibition in Helsinki, where it will present its compre-hensive portfolio of high-performance films for technical applications – and above all, its outstanding expertise with regard to tailor-made concepts. This annual special trade fair and wide-ranging conference program explicitly focus-es on solutions, technologies and services for the construction and laying, as well as the upgrading and maintenance, of underground cables. Trade visitors – engineers, planners, contractors and operators from all over Europe – can find out more about SÜDPACK’s range of solutions at Stand 50-08 in the German Pavilion.

Sustainable packag-ing concept

With the versatile Pure-Line portfolio, based on either PP or PE, SÜDPACK and SN Maschinenbau are coming together at Fachpack 2022 in Nuremberg to present a solution that is both innovative and sustainable for the packag-ing of a broad variety of products in bags. The fully recyclable packaging concept by SÜDPACK will be on display on the new rotary form, fill and seal machine FME 20 in hall 1 at stand 421 of SN German Pouch-Pack Technology.

New plant in Kłobuck

Four-shift operation at an over 14,000 m² site: the new plant in Kłobuck marks another milestone in SÜDPACK’s success story. It primarily stands for uncompromising performance, customer proximity and sustainability. The building complex is equipped with cutting-edge technology and was official-ly opened on May 5 and 6 in the presence of around 100 invited guests. The expansion of printing and finishing capacity at the Polish site is a strategically important step towards meeting the steadily growing demand for SÜDPACK solutions. While at the same time, SÜDPACK is setting the course for future, sustainable growth in the print sector.

SÜDPACK and SN German Pouch-Pack Technology

SÜDPACK is joining forces with SN German Pouch-Pack Technology at Inter-zoo to present an innovative and sustainable aluminum-free solution for packaging a wide range of wet feed products that are usually subjected to heat treatment at the end of the packaging process. SÜDPACK’s aluminum-free packaging concept will be on display on the SN rotary form, fill and seal machine FME 50 in hall 7A on stand 336 of SN German Pouch-Pack Technol-ogy.

Investment in chemical recycling

SÜDPACK and Clean Cycle have signed an agreement for a long-term in-vestment in the unique CARBOLIQ technology developed by Recenso. The decision is the logical consequence of the cooperation between SÜDPACK and CARBOLIQ that started about a year ago. Now the three companies Clean Cycle, SÜDPACK, and CARBOLIQ pool their expertise in the area of ma-terial management with chemical recycling. Their aim is to further expand available capacities for the innovative and highly efficient chemical recycling of a wide range of plastics. They plan to make currently non-reusable pack-aging materials suitable for recycling and for the circular economy that will be necessary in the future.
