Additive manufacturing: Industrial 3D printing

Arburg's enormous expertise in plastics processing also includes solutions for industrial 3D printing from sister company ARBURGadditive. The additive manufacturing of grippers and operating equipment, for example, is an interesting option for injection moulding plants. On the Arburg stand D 42 in Hall 4.1, a Freeformer 300-3X will be producing a gripper in a multi-material combination at Chinaplas 2024.

Additive Manufacturing Training Alliance

Partners in the education alliance include AMbitious, AM solutions, Apium | Additive Technologies GmbH, Daimler Truck AG, DREIGEIST Additive Intelligence oHG, EOS, Headmade Materials GmbH, KraussMaffei and Siemens Energy. The joint collaboration will be launched at Formnext in November 2023. During the leading international trade fair for additive manufacturing (also known as 3D printing), the consortium partners were able to provide insights into their respective expertise and educational programmes through presentations and interviews. The event not only marked the start of the collaboration, but also served as a platform for exchanging ideas and discussing future developments in the industry. This was followed by a joint brainstorming session at the SKZ in Würzburg on 27 February 2024.

PFAS-free additives for the plastics industry

Tosaf, a globally active manufacturer of additives, compounds, and colour masterbatches for the plastics industry, has developed processing aids for the extrusion of polyolefins that do not contain fluoroelastomers. They can be used without restriction in place of conventional products currently affected by the PFAS debate, are suitable for a wide range of film applications, and they meet the requirements of the FDA and EFSA for use in contact with food. While AP9709PE EU provides enhanced rheological properties, AP9711PE EU is the grade of choice if the focus is on optical properties, including clarity and haze.

Phenolic Plus BRUGGOLEN® TP-H1803

Brüggemann's Phenolic Plus BRUGGOLEN® TP-H1803 is a new heat stabilizer for polyamides designed to outperform conventional phenolic/phosphite based stabilizers, i.e. blends of sterically hindered phenolic antioxidants with organic phosphites. BRUGGOLEN® TP-H1803 bridges the price-performance gap between these blends and copper based stabilizers.

New flow enhancer

BRUGGOLEN® TP-P1810 from Brüggemann is the first flow enhancer for semi-aromatic polyamides which is available on the market. This product joins BRUGGOLEN® TP-P1507, which is already used worldwide for aliphatic polyamides such as PA6, PA6.6 and PA12. As a result, the company now offers flow enhancers for the entire polyamide spectrum. Both BRUGGOLEN® TP-P1810 and BRUGGOLEN® TP-P1507 demonstrate very significant improvement in melt flow while retaining the mechanical properties of finished components. Supplied in pellet form, they are easy to dose and disperse during direct injection molding and compounding.

Upcycling from polyamide waste

When recycling polyamides, Brüggemann's BRUGGOLEN® M series of reactive chain modifiers allow precise and reproducible adjustment of relative viscosities, by either lengthening excessively short chains or shortening those which are too long. Producers can use small amounts of these modifiers to tailor relative viscosities to their needs in a single compounding step. The resultant upcycled materials exhibit excellent mechanical properties and are suitable for the same applications as prime materials of similar viscosities. This removes the need to blend the recyclate with prime polymers and opens up a wide range of possibilities for establishing a profitable market for secondary polyamide raw materials which meet the high-quality requirements of the molding industry.
