Composites manufacturer use of bio-based resins

Sustainable composites manufacturing leader Exel Composites has announced a new purchasing agreement with chemical manufacturing giant INEOS for over 100 metric tons of its ENVIREZ bio-based resin system. This deal will serve as a springboard for Exel Composites to phase out its use of hydrocarbon-derived resins. The Finnish pultrusion expert hopes to lead the composites industry towards a more sustainable future with zero change in material performance.

Industrial compostable biopolymer

BASF expands its offering for sustainable food production: Its certified compostable biopolymer ecovio® can now also be used to manufacture black twines used to grow annual fruit and vegetables in commercial greenhouses. The grade ecovio® T 2206 is certified industrial compostable according to EN13432. This means that after harvesting the twines can be collected together with the plant residues and transported to industrial composting facilities (depending on local regulations) where they biodegrade. With this new end-of-life option for twines, persistent microplastics in organic waste can be avoided while at the same time more green waste can be turned into valuable compost. The industrial compostable ecovio® thus supports organic recycling and helps to close the nutrient loop to achieve a circular economy.

Biotworzywa: dobre rokowania

Światowa produkcja biotworzyw nabiera tempa po kilku latach stagnacji, wywołanej głównie Covid-19. Rozwój ten napędzany jest rosnącym popytem w połączeniu z pojawieniem się bardziej wyrafinowanych aplikacji i produktów. Globalne moce produkcyjne biotworzyw znacznie wzrosną z około 2,18 mln ton w 2023 r. do około 7,43 mln ton w 2028 r.

Braskem zwiększa produkcję biopolimerów o 30%

W czerwcu firma Braskem zakończyła 30-procentowy wzrost mocy produkcyjnych swojej fabryki bioetylenu, zlokalizowanej w kompleksie petrochemicznym Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazylia. Inwestycja o wartości 87 mln USD ma na celu zaspokojenie rosnącego światowego zapotrzebowania na zrównoważone produkty. Zakład pracuje obecnie ze zwiększoną wydajnością, z 200 000 do 260 000 ton/rok. Bioetylen firmy Braskem jest wytwarzany z etanolu z trzciny cukrowej pozyskiwanego w sposób zrównoważony, który usuwa CO 2 z atmosfery i magazynuje go w produktach codziennego użytku.

The global bio-based polymer market 2019

Turbulent times for bio-based polymers in 2019: PLA sold out despite expansion, as did PHA. Bio-based PP available for the first time, increased production of PBAT, PBS, bio-based PE, starch-containing polymer compounds and epoxy resins. Lower production is seen particularly in bio-based PET.
